I know we had a thread here not too long ago on what you're all reading... here's my update...

Ok... finally got around to reading The DaVinci Code... and Holy Crap (no pun intentded) is it good! I'm about halfway through it, and can hardly put it down.

Now I live in a heavily Christian area, and this book has gotten a lot of negative rap around here, because it brings up some very controversial stuff... it is a work of fiction, but there are a lot of true facts in it that make it a very compelling read. It has caused me to do a lot of extra research in the truth, and it is quite eerie. I also have a renewed interest in DaVinci's works, and am probably going to pick up a book on him now. And for the record, I am Catholic by birth, but am an agnostic now (no, not because of this book). My wife, who is Christian, won't read it because she doesn't want to "challenge what she believes in." Oh well... it is fiction, but I can see her point. However, if a book makes you think that deeply about something, even if it is fiction... makes it excellent in my eyes. I like books that really make you think. But I like good "reads like a movie" books too...

I also went to the book store, and picked up Dan Brown's other books, including Angels and Demons, Deception Point and Digital Fortress. The man is a great author. I also picked up some more books on Amazon last week, the three Bourne books by Ludlum, as I haven't read them yet.

I have a lot of customs to finish, but lately I've been bitten by the reading bug... got lots to read now. Damn, I need a full-time job... but then, I won't have time to do read OR do customs...

Anyhow, even if you have slight interest in what The DaVinci Code is about... pick it up... it's awesome. I gotta go finish it now...

What is everyone else reading, besides these posts here?

just finished Ursula K. LeGuin's Malafena(sp).
wasn't too impressed. I've liked all her other work I've read, but this one...meh.

still reading another of her books, from the Earthsea series.
and a collection of vampire short stories by a bunch of diff folk.

still trying to find King's Wolves of the Calla, and Susannah's Song.

My dad is an Episcopalian minister. I gave him Da Vinci for Father's Day last year. Bam! I might as well have given him a book on ancient satanic rituals. He HATED it. Said there were a lot of inaccuracies. I thought it was great entertainment. I'm not enough of an expert to tell you what's true and what isn't. It's just a fun read.

You're gonna love Angels & Demons. It's even faster-paced than Da Vinci.

I love her Patternist Series

can't get into her Xenogenesis Trilogy

but her new Earthseed story sounds like it might be pretty cool~

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Sweet - that's what I hear... can't wait. I didn't know Langdon was in that one too, and it came first, or I would have read it first. No biggie.

As for the first comment... yeah, you have to have an open mind. I know he takes a lot of liberties, but the core of the things he brings up is historically true in a lot of cases. There are a lot of books now "explaining" the DaVinci Code, some which go into further depth on the facts, and some put out by the churches to debunk it, and enforce the "nothing to see here...move along... don't question us..." mentality. It's things like that that really make the skeptic/conspirac theorist in me wonder even more... which is why I want to read more actual history and fact books on the subject, not just the fiction.

I haven't read a book that caused me to do that in ages...

I totally agree. I want to check out some of the historical stuff too. I came across a website selling a video tour of all the sites in Da Vinci and talks about the facts and fiction of the book. Now I can't find it. If I come across it again I'll post the link.

Yeah - I'm this close to saying A&D is a better book.
And lest we forget... Ron Howard is making a move of Da Vinci code. Be interesting to see if he pulls it off.

Why read one, when I can write one..

Actually, I've been trying to come up with a good basis for it.

I have the name already done in my head.

And some of the major plots, and names.

But I need to figure out how too start it or where it's going to end.

The books gonna be called "Imperfect Decision"
